What does a Cisco call manager do?

We have heard about VoIP for many years and although some have never worked with it, it has become the current standard of IP communication and private sector exchange (PBX) or call Cisco Call Manager.

Popular vendors such as Siemens, Panasonic, Alcatel and many others that until recently did not Introduce VoIP solutions have seen the new wave coming and have developed solutions that allow their systems to support VoIP. However, these ‘integrated’ products are not just VoIP and do not support the expected features of VoIP PBX such as SIP Trunking for international providers, code selection, H.323 calling protocol, and more.

While Cisco has never released analog or analog PBXs (thank goodness!), They got off to a good start with the latest technology, which is VoIP. With decades of experience in most of the exchange and route market, Cisco Call Manager and Call Manager Express have been born.

Cisco CallManager, now officially renamed as 'Cisco Common Communications Manager' or 'CUCM', is a server-based IP phone solution that is now the company's most popular VoIP product. Approximately capable of supporting thousands of IP phones by combining several CUCM servers, it is the ultimate pure VoIP solution for commercial customers.

Due to the need for small market access, Cisco has introduced a smaller version of the Cisco CallManager Express, also known as CCME or CME. The new official name here is Cisco Unified Communication Manager Express (CUCME), but the general public still calls it CCME.

Cisco CallManager Express (CME) is an IP telephony solution that can accommodate from 24 to 450 phones, depending on the router model. Perhaps the best thing about CME is that it runs on a Cisco router and does not require different hardware than usual with CME.

If you have a Cisco router, running CME can be as easy as updating iOS and possibly DRAM. From there, depending on your requirements, you can quickly article-image

configure and use it or require additional updates. CallManager Express is very flexible because it is modular.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

CME requirements depend on the version of the product and the platform on which it will be installed.

Obviously, the Cisco 2851 router is a very large model that can support many IP phones, hence the high DRAM requirements.

The reason for this is that Cisco has recently changed its IOS strategy and now provides a 'universal' IOS that has all the features built in (e.g. firewall, VoIP, VPN, etc.), however it requires an activation code to enable different services. . and Features: This may sound like a great idea, but most Cisco engineers disagree with Cisco's tactic, as it seriously limits the IOS features that you can "test" on your routers.

Overall, if you want to give Cisco CallManager Express a try, Release 7.1 (IOS Release 12.4. (24) T) is a great place to start as it contains numerous bug fixes and enhancements. This release can also run on older Cisco 1760 series routers and is not subject to the licensing restrictions that Cisco introduced with IOS 15 and later.

What is CUCM integration with Active Directory?

While there are many integration possibilities with Cisco Unified Call Manager, one that we are often asked is between Cisco Unified Call Manager and Active Directory. This request is so common that we have heard it from all the companies that have bought BE6K from us.

The integration of CUCM and Active Directory allows user profiles to be synchronized between applications. Instead of requiring different usernames and passwords to log into your computer, email, and other collaboration applications, once the integration is complete, you can use the same username and password for all of them.

Another benefit of this integration is that you can link your phone and email to an email address and send voicemails as email attachments.

Both of these benefits enhance the CUCM user experience.

What does this mean?

If you are considering BE6K, BE7K or Call Manager Express, CUCM is a powerful audio and video processing application in a collaboration package.

Unified CM is the ability to connect with cooks or customers wherever they are using voice, video or messaging.

With CUCM, you can reliably connect with colleagues or customers via audio or video.

As mentioned earlier, CUCM is only part of the suite that comes with the Cisco Collaboration Package.
